Double Penetration: Hot Fantasy or Hard Pass?

For many of us, double penetration (DP) wasn't something we learned about in sex-ed. Maybe you discovered it through porn and got curious, fantasised about trying it or wondered, wait... where does everything go? Clearly there's a lot to unpack.

Rather than make assumptions, we decided to ask the women in our Hedonist community what they really think about double penetration: what turns them on, what puts them off and whether they'd actually try it. On October 2026, we ran three polls in our Telegram community, with 59–73 responses per poll. Here's what they told us.

Curious about something specific? Jump straight it here:

What Is Double Penetration?

Let's clear up one of the biggest misconceptions first.

Double penetration means receiving two forms of penetration at the same time. And despite what porn might suggest, it doesn't always involve multiple partners.

DP can involve vaginal and anal penetration, multiple forms of vaginal penetration, or a combination of a partner, fingers or sex toys.

Yes, toys count. Your fantasy does not need a casting department.

A man waves his hand dismissively while a woman beside him looks on, both seated on a pink sofa, with the caption ‘Next!’

There's rarely one universal reason why something turns us on.

For some women, DP is about the physical sensations: fullness, pressure or multiple sensations at once. For others, it could be psychological: being the centre of attention, surrendering control, feeling intensely desired or exploring something taboo.

And for partners, the appeal might come from watching someone they desire experience pleasure, exploring a group-sex fantasy or simply sharing something new together.

But finding a fantasy hot doesn’t mean you need it IRL. You can fantasise about DP every Tuesday night and happily leave it in fantasyland.

Where do women actually stand on DP?

When we asked our Hedonistas, the top response was "Haven't tried it, but I'm curious" (42%), followed by "Hot in fantasy, not sure I'd want it IRL" (32%). That's nearly 3 in 4 respondents (74%) who were either curious or intrigued by the fantasy.

Does Double Penetration Feel Good for Women? Fantasy vs Reality

As much as we'd love a simple answer: it depends.

One person's idea of a good time can easily be another person's absolutely not.

More penetration doesn't automatically mean more pleasure, especially when clitoral stimulation plays such a major role in pleasure and orgasm for many women.

And then there's porn vs reality...

Porn can be fantastic entertainment. Sex education? Not always.

What looks effortless on screen often skips the reality: preparation, communication, lubrication (lots of it), checking in — and the occasional leg cramp at the worst possible moment.

A man with a moustache lies on a couch under an orange blanket, screaming in panic, with a caption of symbols ending in ‘911’

Remember: Double penetration isn't an achievement to unlock. Trying it doesn't make you more sexually liberated, and a hard pass doesn't make you boring.

What actually appeals to women about DP?

When we asked our Hedonistas, the top response (27%) was experiencing multiple sensations at once, closely followed by 24% who were simply curious about what double penetration might feel like.

Anonymous poll asking what's appealing about DP, with results for fullness, sensations, attention, power dynamics, taboo, and curiosity.

Interestingly, the surrender or power dynamic (19%) ranked third, ahead of the taboo factor (15%) and the feeling of fullness or pressure (8%).

From physical sensations to power dynamics, there's no one-size-fits-all turn-on.

My Partner Wants to Try Double Penetration. What If I'm Not Sure?

If your partner brings up DP and you're not immediately thinking hell yes, don't pressure yourself into having an answer.

A fantasy is an invitation to talk, not an obligation to make it happen.

Get curious about what actually turns each of you on about the idea:

  • Is it the sensation?
  • Another person?
  • The power dynamic?
  • Or is it simply hotter in your head?

Give yourself permission to sit with it, explore a smaller version or decide it's staying a fantasy.

What would make women feel comfortable considering DP?

When we asked our Hedonistas, the largest share (26%) prioritised feeling safe and comfortable with their partner, closely followed by 23% who valued discussing boundaries beforehand.

Anonymous poll on factors most important before considering DP, focusing on safety, consent, and communication.

The remaining votes were equally divided (17% each) between genuine desire, the ability to stop anytime and the freedom to explore at their own pace.

The bottom line? Whether it's double penetration or any other sexual fantasy, the best experiences start with mutual enthusiasm, not pressure.

How to Try Double Penetration Safely

You don't need to go from 0 to porn. At any pace, the golden rule stays the same: keep communicating and checking in with each other. Beyond that, here's your DP checklist to follow:

  • Explore each sensation first: Before combining two forms of penetration, explore what feels comfortable separately. When you’re ready to combine sensations, a purpose-designed toy can give you more control over pace and intensity. Our Xena 3-in-1 Anal Rabbit Dildo, for example, is designed for simultaneous vaginal and anal penetration, with added clitoral stimulation.
  • Take extra care with anal penetration: The anus doesn't self-lubricate, so use plenty of lubricant that’s ideal for anal play, and give your body time to adjust.
  • Keep anal and vaginal play separate: Never move a penis, finger or toy from anus to vagina without washing it or changing the condom or barrier first.
  • Practise safer sex: With multiple partners, discuss STI testing and barriers like condoms beforehand.
  • Skip numbing products: They can mask pain your body is trying to communicate.

And always remember: discomfort isn't the price of admission.

So, Is Double Penetration Worth Trying?

Whether DP makes it onto your sexual bucket list or stays happily in fantasyland, there’s no right or wrong answer. Your pleasure, your boundaries, your call.

After all, being sexually adventurous isn’t about how much you try. It’s about knowing what you want, owning what you don’t and exploring pleasure on your own terms.

Double Penetration FAQs

Is Double Penetration Safe?

Double penetration can be explored more safely when everyone involved is consenting, communicating and moving at a pace that's comfortable for the receiving partner.

Using plenty of appropriate lubricant, practising good hygiene and using condoms or other barriers where appropriate can help reduce risks. If something hurts, stop or adjust rather than trying to push through it.

Does Double Penetration Always Involve Anal Sex?

No. While simultaneous vaginal and anal penetration is probably the most recognisable version of DP, double penetration broadly involves two forms of penetration happening at the same time.

This could involve vaginal or anal penetration and different combinations of partners, fingers or sex toys.

Do You Need Three People for Double Penetration?

Nope. Couples can explore DP using a combination of a partner and a sex toy. For some people, this may actually feel more approachable because there's greater control over size, pressure, positioning and pace.

What Does Double Penetration Feel Like for Women?

There's no universal answer. Some women may enjoy the increased fullness, pressure or multiple sensations happening simultaneously. Others may find the same sensation overwhelming or uncomfortable. What feels incredible to one body may be a hard pass for another.

Can Double Penetration Make You Orgasm?

It can lead to orgasm for some people, but more penetration doesn't automatically mean more pleasure.

Many women need or prefer clitoral stimulation to orgasm, so penetration alone, regardless of how much of it there is, may not be the stimulation their body responds to most strongly.

What Are the Best Sex Toys for Exploring Double Penetration?

If you're new to DP, smaller body-safe insertable dildos or anal toys can give you more control over size and intensity while you explore.

For anal play, always choose toys specifically designed for anal use with a flared base or another feature that prevents the toy from travelling fully inside the rectum.
